The relationship a reader has with On The Road by Jack Kerouac will categorize the person into 1 of the 4 kinds of people in this world:

1) The people who have never read Kerouac, and there are a lot of these folks in the world living merrily in the darkness which is all fine if they did not know about it. 

2) The people who have read Kerouac but do not “get it”, and there are a few of these folks in the world, but it does not mean they never will, the his proses might just be simmering in their brains like spirits in waiting.

3) The people who have read Kerouac, “get it”, but don’t like it, they are enemies of lives lived for spontaneous beauty, theirs is one way to live among many in the world, and one day I will come to terms with these tragic beings.  

4) The people who have read Kerouac and love it, however quietly, they are the kindred spirits, the mad ones, as Sal Paradise would say.
